This is the mailing envelope for a letter written by Leroy Wheeler, stationed at Camp Bliss, Virginia (Union Army), 143rd NY Volunteer Infantry, during the U.S. Civil War. The envelope is postmarked in Washington, DC, and is addressed to his cousin. It reads as follows: "Miss Sophia Wheeler (Via of Calicoon), Rockland, Sull. Co. NY" (Sullivan County). The original letter is four pages long, and was donated by Judy Gelfand.
