Albion Winegar Tourgee was a Civil Rights activist. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1862 and became a Lieutenant in the Union army. He was wounded, captured, and imprisoned in 1863. Upon his release he became a lawyer in Ohio. Shortly afterwards, Tourgee moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, where he was editor of the Erie Dispatch.
