General Henry Martin Nevius

This letter of recommendation was written & signed by Henry M. Nevius. The letter is Dated 3 September 1884. He was writing on his Red Bank, New Jersey, Law Office Stationary. Nevius lost an arm during the Civil War leading Union Calvary in defense of Washington. After the action, Abraham Lincoln promoted him to Major. He went on to become a Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic (1908-1909)
